“If you do the things that you don’t want to do, the things you are not good at, the hard things, you will get stronger- physically and mentally” ~Coach Becky
Following the birth of my 3rd child I decided I wanted to “get fit”. Little did I know, that simple goal would turn into a lifelong dream. Feeling lost and a bit embarrassed, I began working out alone in my home. This was great for about 6 months- I was seeing results, I was motivated to workout, and it was convenient. Unfortunately, at month 6 my motivation started to decline and by month 7 it was free-falling and headed toward imminent disaster. Recognizing this I decided to seek help, which came in the form of secretly stalking this amazing mom I knew from my youngest daughter’s school. This woman was amazing- super positive, kind-hearted, and more fit than any person I had ever met in my life. After a few months of trepidation, I finally got up the courage to ask her about her fitness. It was the best decision of my life!!! She told me about this awesome gym- it was a CrossFit gym (gasp)! She invited me to go with her to workout. I was terrified as I walked through the doors, thinking “CrossFit is scary and intimidating, I could get hurt and die, I can’t do all that crazy stuff with those bar things, I’m not fit enough to do this, what if I look stupid… etc.” My friend assured me that I would be taken care of and that it would be fun. She did not lie. I completed my first “WOD” and could not believe the amount of encouragement and support I felt while doing it. People were cheering me on and even doing extra reps so I didn’t have to finish alone. It was one of the best experiences up to that point in my life and it ignited a fire in me that continues to burn today.
Fast forward 8 years and I am still working out with that same friend, still thanking her for her role in changing my life (thanks Jess), and still loving every minute of my gym time. Functional fitness has become a lifestyle for me, assisting me in every facet of my life- mentally, physically, and emotionally. Working out, specifically at the intensity and with the variation that is found in a functional fitness style workout, has helped me to realize so much about myself. I am strong, confident, and more grounded as a result. I have been doing functional fitness style workouts for 8 years now and have done so all over the world. It is amazing to me that functional fitness is universal and can bridge any gap- language, culture, age, religion, etc. Anyone, yes anyone, can do it! I look forward to assisting you on your fitness journey and can’t wait to share my passion with you!
